Work entailed the remodel of a single family house
for a young couple in El Cerrito, California. The husband
is a wheelchair user and the work included the remodel
of the existing kitchen to provide a more open plan
that afforded a greater level of usability with accessible
counters, appliances, cabinets and storage. The design
included making the hall and living room more adaptable
to its users and more amenable to entertaining small
groups. The existing bathroom was expanded and remodeled
to provide wheelchair turn-around space and incorporate
adaptable design fixtures and like the "soft bathtub."
A new wood deck, stair and ramp to ground level was
added on the rear of the house that integrates with
the kitchen design and allows the flow of
the interior kitchen space out onto the deck.
